Decades Later, The Lord Of The Rings Movies Are Putting Up Huge Box Office Numbers

Decades after they were originally released, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers are back inside the top 10 at the box office in the US.
For the weekend of June 7-9, the two films landed at No. 8 and No. 9 at the domestic box office, bringing in $2.456 million and $1.907 million, respectively, according to data from Box Office Mojo (via Collider). The films were re-released as part of a special promotion from Fathom Events and played in more than 1,500 theaters across the US.
The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers will be back in theaters this coming weekend, and the following weekend, and The Return of the King is joining them this weekend and next as part of the special event. As such, these numbers are expected to continue to grow throughout June.
